Defining Irishness...

Just found this absolutely hilarious list on the internet! They are so true but I only really see it now after being away for sooooo long! The one about being 'absolutely terrified of the wooden spoon' is classic!!! :) anyone who doesn't get it will think we Irish are nuts!

Irishness is...

Describing someone with longstanding, persistent and untreated psychosis as "a character".

Saying "There's definitely no recession here!" every time you see more than 5 people in a pub.

Saying "Ah but he's very good to his mother" about some utter fool.

TK Red lemonade, Taytos and white pudding. Not together of course.

Your mam or dad greeting you with the phrase "d'ya know who's dead?"

That mini heart attack you get if you go out and forget to turn off the immersion.

"You're not drinking??? Are you on antibiotics?"

Wallpaper on your school books.

Being 'Grand'!!

Boil everything in a huge pot for 3 hours.

Being absolutely terrified of a wooden spoon.

Learning a language for 12 years and not being fluent.

Going absolutely mental at concerts because you're a mad yoke...

Flat 7UP heals all illnesses.

Calling Joe Duffy instead of the Guards.

Giving directions to people using the pub names on each corner, instead of the street names.

Understanding what it means to make 'a holy show of yourself'!

Opening up coversations with "comere 'til I tell ya".

Knowing somewhere can't be too far away because it's described in distance as "a hens race"...

  1. Ah Grace you made me smile, especially the; Describing someone with longstanding, persistent and untreated psychosis as "a character". How many of these people do you know in Ireland?, and I'm sure you know many more of them in Finland!
